BFCC Package

Tema Engineering are preparing to ship a skid based BFCC package for Schlumberger.

Tema Engineering have a produced a number of BFCC packages for Schlumberger/Cameron over the years, but each one presents its new challenges. This packages is destined for the Azeri Central East (ACE) Project, located 120km east of Baku in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.

The unit employs a constant current, variable voltage DC-power supply to energise copper and chlorine electrodes and produce copper and chlorine, by means of electrolysis. These additives, which are formed in low concentrations, work together to effectively prevent biofouling in a variety of water systems, whilst have a low environmental impact.

This was a project which highlights Tema’s ability to offer turnkey package build solutions, and utilised all three of our South Wales facilities.

On this package the copper electrode is housed within a vertically mounted Super Duplex Stainless Steel vessel, which was designed and manufactured by Tema in accordance with ASME Section VIII Division 1 to accommodate wind, seismic and blast loadings, and carries the ASME ‘U’ Stamp. The manufacture included precision machining of the vessel bore to ensure secure housing and correct operation of the copper electrode, whilst welding, for which Tema are ISO 3834-2 certified, was in accordance with ASME IX and customer specification.

The base frame was also mechanically designed and manufactured by Tema, again to accommodate wind, seismic and blast loadings, and like the vessel was painted in accordance with customer specifications by Tema Protective Coatings, with multiple systems applied over the package as a whole.

Tema’s scope also included:

• Design, manufacture and procurement of lifting equipment.
• Design and procurement of plastic piping.
• Proof load testing of the skid base frame and lifting equipment.
• Mechanical assemble of the package.
• Weighing and centre of gravity checks on the complete unit.
• Packaging and preservation of the complete unit.

Electrical and Instrumentation installation, insulation, and Factory Acceptance Testing we’re also all carried out at Tema’ premises in Cardiff.
